5 Stars Awesome product that blows away the competition! Crystal clear picture/sound!
"Awesome picture quality! Beats out Samsung!nice product"

by mattliptak on February 8, 2009

Pros: Awesome picture and easy to use and set up! Traded in my Samsung first generation BDP 1000 for this very sleek small player that looks like a PS3 menu and I added a wireless N adaptor to it to make the BD live work and updates etc. Top of the line!

Cons: Sound quality is not what its all cracked up to be, but still good. Why they didnt add WIFI to this internally is beyond me since PS3 has it. Thats my only complaint

Summary: Compact very nice top of the line blu ray that beats out any and all the current players on the market today!

4 Stars Great item, wonderful service from Amazon
This Blu Ray player was so easy to set up and install. I am not a tech person and usually something goes wrong when I try to set up my own electronics, but this was so easy to set up. The Sony setup menu was easy to navigate. The picture quality is amazing! And it upconverts DVDs to a much better picture. I bought this off of Amazon because Best Buy is sold out of basically every mid-priced Blu Ray player. I was very wary of buying off of Amazon as I like the Best Buy option of an extra warranty, so I hope nothing goes wrong with this player. I expected this to come in next week, but somehow Amazon got it here the two days after I ordered it. So so far so good!

5 Stars Nice product - worth the price
I was looking for a new toy to buy, and I always wanted to own a blu-ray player to see what the big deal is about. All I have to say is WOW.

While some BDs seem to appear at the same quality as my Sony upconverting DVD player, others definitely are far superior in picture quality over DVD.

Also, this player has the 7.1 analog out. You can tell the player what speakers are hooked up as well. This is a nice feature, as I don't have to spend more money replacing my old (6 years old) 5.1 AV receiver. It hooks right up to the multi channel in ports in the back. The sound is crisp and fills my media room nicely.

The only somewhat negative thing I could think of to note is that it loads discs slowly compared to a normal DVD player. I would say the load time is 2-3 times as long as my 5-disc DVD player and 4-5 times as long as my single disc DVD player (which is lightning fast). It's not like you're waiting for eternity for it to load. In fact, I've gotten used to it. Just thought I'd mention it.

5 Stars Excellent blu-ray player for older 7.1 stereo systems
I got this blu-ray player for many of the same reasons as other reviewers mentioned - second generation play with relatively quick startup time (profile 2) and support for direct 7.1 analog out to older stereos with direct 7.1 audion in (Yamaha home theater system). I connected the blu-ray player to the Yamaha home theater system through direct 7.1 analog cables as well as an optical. The former for those blu-ray disks that support 7.1 audio and the later for older DVDs and 5.1 blu-ray disks. Both produced a great sound field - though partly due to the Yamaha supporting an additional 2 presence speakers and sound field processing - even when using the 5.1 audio input.

The only negative is the player is still relatively expensive compared to many plain digital out only (optical and HDMI only) players. But so far I've been impressed with its video and audio performance.

5 Stars Nothing but the finest Blu-Ray player
I received my Sony Blue-Ray player as a gift from Amazon/Sony when I purchased my Sony 46XBR6 HDTV. I have it connected through my Sony Home Theatre receiver and use Bravia sync with HDMI cables. The operation requires a minimum number of button changes to view Blu Ray content and produces great super clear movies and theatre quality sound.

the Amazon/Sony deal was much better than I could get at Best Buy or Sony Style.
